The Joint Commission

Community Hospital has been a Joint Commission accredited Spine Surgery Program since 2015 and received our Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery (ACSS) in 2019. Our hospital was one of the firsts to receive this accreditation nationwide and was the first in the Midwest.  

To qualify for ACSS, organizations must: 

• Serve a minimum of 200 spine surgery patients annually 
• Implement standardized clinical care delivery based on evidence-based guidelines 
• Collect and report performance measurement data, including pre- and post-operative patient-reported outcomes (PROs) 
• Participate in the American Spine Registry (ASR), which tracks clinical outcomes and supports quality improvement 
• Adhere to Joint Commission spine-specific performance measures, with data submitted quarterly 

Blue Distinction

Blue Distinction Specialty Care is a national designation program, awarded by local Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies, recognizing healthcare providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality and affordable healthcare to meet consumers’ specialty care needs—safely, effectively, and cost-efficiently.

This designation is a testament to the rigorous standards met by Community Hospital. Designated facilities provide high-quality care, with an average of 28% lower readmission rates and 29% lower complications within 90 days after spine surgery. BDC+ designated facilities also achieve cost savings of 23% for spine surgery compared to other facilities for that specialty of care.

Outstanding Outcomes

We completed over 800 spine surgeries in 2025. 80% of our patients are able to return home directly from the hospital.
