NORTHWEST INDIANA | Powers Health’s oncology rehabilitation programs have achieved bronze-level accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Oncology Rehabilitation from the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORi).
This accreditation recognizes programs that demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based oncology rehabilitation services through specialized training, clinical care and patient support, according to PORi, a national organization dedicated to advancing excellence in cancer rehabilitation.
“This accreditation reflects the dedication our rehabilitation team has for providing exceptional, patient-centered care for those living with and beyond cancer,” said John Doherty, vice president of Therapy Services and Sports Medicine for Powers Health. “Achieving this status validates the specialized expertise of our clinicians and our commitment to delivering oncology rehabilitation services that help patients regain function, improve quality of life and navigate their cancer journey with confidence.”
The PORi Center of Excellence pathway is structured in three levels: bronze, silver and gold. Bronze-level accreditation focuses on clinician education, facility compliance and alignment with PORi clinical standards, establishing a strong foundation for oncology rehabilitation services.
Powers Health’s oncology rehabilitation programs help those diagnosed with cancer manage and recover from treatment-related side effects that may affect mobility, strength, endurance, balance, swallowing, speech and overall quality of life. Through individualized therapy plans, patients receive specialized care designed to help them maintain independence and achieve the best possible outcomes during and after cancer treatment.
“There are 90 PORi Centers of Excellence nationwide and only six in Indiana. Powers Health has four of them: St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Community Hospital Outpatient Center in Munster, Powers Health Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point and St. Mary Medical Center Outpatient Center in Hobart,” Doherty said. “This represents our unmatched commitment to cancer patients in Northwest Indiana and Chicago’s south suburbs.”
