Registered Nurse
What is your role with Community Healthcare System?
I am a Registered Nurse in the Department of Surgery at Community Hospital.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always had the desire to take care of others who are in need. I feel very blessed in my profession to have walked alongside those who may need surgery and to be a support person for patients and their families.
What is a typical day like for you?
Our department is fast-paced. We begin our days early, most often at 5 a.m., prepping our patients for surgery. I work in collaboration with the anesthesia team in making sure our patients are fully informed and educated prior to taking them back to the operating room. We also work with patients in the Pain Clinic before and after surgery.
How long have you been employed here?
I’ve been employed at Community Hospital for 11 years.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
In the last two years I have trained to become a Charge Nurse, overseeing the patient flow in both the Surgical Assessment Unit and the Pain Clinic. I am in constant contact with the surgery schedulers, working together in developing an efficient surgical pattern for the following day. It is a demanding position, but it also is rewarding.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
Most of my time outside of work is spent with my family. We love to camp in the summer, and I thoroughly enjoy just being outdoors. I also like watching my kids play high school volleyball, softball and baseball.
What do you enjoy most about working at Community Healthcare System?
I’m thankful for my team of co-workers and all of the kind people I get to interact with throughout Community Hospital. I am also very grateful for the friendships I have developed here. There always will be ups and downs in your workplace, but having a positive attitude makes the day brighter. I appreciate sharing all of these experiences, even when they are challenging, with a team of caring and dedicated people. I am very proud to be a part of Community Healthcare System.
