Senior Regulatory Compliance Coordinator
What is your role with Community Healthcare System?
My role as Senior Regulatory Compliance Coordinator at Community Hospital is to support all departments within the Engineering and Construction Division, maintain regulatory documentation, and be a resource for environment of care and life safety.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
My loving, hard working parents. I come from a large family and observed how they diligently cared for me and my siblings. Working in healthcare engineering allows me to actively help and protect patients in a supporting role.
What is a typical day like for you?
Exciting! No two days are ever the same. One day will consist of office time where I maintain paperwork from recent inspections, research regulations, update hospital architectural and square footage prints on all our properties and write/review contract proposals. Other days I am meeting with teams to complete risk assessments, reviewing construction sites, participating in environmental rounds and generally supporting the healthcare system.
How long have you been employed here?
I have been here for 25 years. My Community Healthcare System career began in Quality Management and the last 16 years have been in Engineering. During this time, I have personally been involved in 25 Joint Commission Surveys, 35 State surveys and two CMS Validation surveys.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Community Healthcare System is constantly evolving, and my supporting role has grown with the system. My position supporting Community Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center and St. Catherine Hospital grew and in 2016 required additional full-time positions at each facility. Soon after, I aided the building and commissioning of the Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in a regulatory capacity and took on a supporting role at Hartsfield Village.
I have worked and learned from incredibly talented engineers across the system over the years. I was challenged several years back to sit for a Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) examination, which is a certification that is primarily held by engineers working in healthcare. I am happy to have become the second woman in the state of Indiana to hold this designation.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite “local gem”?
I have three children at Illiana Christian High School and much of my free time revolves around their academic, spiritual, cultural and sports interests. My husband and I also enjoy date night visiting a local gem, Zorn Brew Works in Michigan City. Whether it is summer or winter, we enjoy sitting in front of a cozy fire table, nibbling on their delectable cuisine and drinking a specialty seltzer, while listening to live music.
What do you enjoy most about working at Community Healthcare System?
Community Healthcare System is comprised of intelligent, talented people who enjoy what they do and rise daily to the challenges that encompass their facility. Working with this incredible team has been a pleasure and I am proud to be part of the Community Healthcare System family.
