Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse

What is your role with Community Healthcare System?
I am a nurse at Community Hospital.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
After high school, I went to Purdue for my nursing degree. I worked as a fellow in the nursery, and I fell in love with taking care of infants.

What is a typical day like for you?
I work full time; working eight- and 12-hour shifts. I come on the unit, get my assignment, which can be two to three infants. I take vitals, do feedings every two to three hours. I also insert PICC lines, go on transports. I am on S&P team and do VON for our unit.

How long have you been employed here?
I have been employed at Community Hospital for 40 years!

What are some of your interests outside of work?
I love to garden and read mystery books.

What do you enjoy most about working at Community Healthcare System?
I have always worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I love the closeness that I have with our NICU family. The doctors, midlevels, nurses and ancillary departments all work together for the care of our NICU infants.
