Registered Nurse
What is your role with Community Healthcare System?
I am a registered nurse certified in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Community Hospital.
What was your inspiration for getting into health care?
I knew I wanted to take care of infants since I did my rotation in college in a NICU. I love the bond you form with the infants and their families. I love seeing the difference we make with these precious, little babies.
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day for me can vary. Somedays I am in charge, which consists of taking care of one infant, assisting my co-workers and going to all C-sections and emergent deliveries. Other days, I could be assigned to go on any transports to our sister hospitals. Frequently, I teach the Neonatal Resuscitation Program to any of the staff members at the three hospitals who need it.
How long have you been employed here?
I have been employed with Community Healthcare System for 30 years, since 1993 as a nurse fellow. I then was immediately hired as a RN out of college.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Probably the biggest change I have noticed over the years is the advancement of care for our extremely low-birth-weight infants. It is amazing to see how good the outcomes can be for these 23- to 25-week gestational-age infants.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kids, who are young adults now. We like taking our dog, Bruno, for walks, playing games and watching movies together.
What do you enjoy most about working at Community Healthcare System?
I truly enjoy working in the NICU with amazing nurses, physicians, our PA and NP, manager, educator, clinical team leader and all the ancillary departments. It takes a village, and we have an amazing one!
