NORTHWEST INDIANA | Powers Health is advancing spine care in Northwest Indiana with the successful completion of the first PILAR procedure at Community Hospital, performed by Neurosurgeon Joshua Simon, MD.

PILAR is an advanced, muscle-sparing technique for cervical spine surgery. This innovative approach provides strong support and stability in the neck while helping surgeons perform the procedure with 3D surgical navigation.

“Introducing procedures such as PILAR allows us to expand treatment options for patients with cervical spine conditions,” Dr. Simon said. “This advanced technology benefits patients who may otherwise be at higher risk and also enhances the safety and success in performing procedures we do on a routine basis.”

Randy Neiswonger, CEO of Community Hospital, said offering the new procedure demonstrates Powers Health’s ongoing commitment to innovation and clinical excellence.

“We are proud to support physicians like Dr. Simon who continually advance the level of care available to our communities, ensuring patients have access to the latest treatment options without leaving Northwest Indiana,” Neiswonger said.

As a neurosurgeon with Powers Health, Dr. Simon specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spine and nervous system. He offers both minimally invasive and complex surgical solutions tailored to each patient’s condition and goals.
