NORTHWEST INDIANA | Powers Health Community Hospital has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first hospital in Indiana to earn The Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Heart Attack Center (CHAC) certification. This prestigious designation recognizes the highest standards in heart attack care.
The achievement reflects the extraordinary dedication, clinical expertise and collaboration of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, ancillary staff, leaders and support personnel across Powers Health. The certification is the result of extensive preparation, rigorous evaluation and a steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional cardiovascular care to patients.
“Earning the Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Heart Attack Center distinction is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the culture of excellence that defines Powers Health,” said Dale O’Donnell, vice president of Cardiovascular Services. “This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team and reinforces our commitment to providing high-quality care to every patient we serve.”
The Comprehensive Heart Attack Center certification recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated advanced capabilities in treating the most complex heart attack cases. The rigorous standards required for certification evaluate clinical expertise, coordinated care processes, outcomes and the ability to deliver timely, evidence-based treatment.
More than an accreditation, the distinction affirms Powers Health’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in cardiovascular medicine. It highlights the organization’s ability to provide comprehensive, integrated care during some of the most critical moments in a patient’s life.
“This recognition sends a clear message to our patients that they can trust Powers Health to deliver coordinated, expert care when it matters most,” said Samer Abbas, MD, a cardiologist and co-medical director of Cardiovascular Services for Powers Health and medical director of the Structural Heart and Valve Program of Powers Health. “By achieving this certification, we are not only strengthening our cardiovascular program but also advancing our mission to improve the health and well-being of our community.”
